Hello everyone, before you think that this is going to be an opinion on the city or the city from my point of view, it is not. This part will only be fact and figures about Barcelona and it is an introduction before we really get the know this amazing city.

The amazing beach a few minutes by metro from the centre of the city

I hope that everyone knows the city a little bit. Most of us have the basic knowledge but still I will repeat it for the smart people in our midst. So, Barcelona is NOT the capital of Spain but still one of the biggest cities. It is located in a province that is also called Barcelona, what a coincidence, right? The main spoken language in Barcelona is Catalan, so if you come here to improve your proper Spanish, it won't be easy!

Arc De Triomf

In 2017 Barcelona counted 1.61 million inhabitants. Of course that's a lot but if you compare this to the number of visitors/tourists in Barcelona it's not that much. For every person living in Barcelona they have 5 visitors! Every year people from all around the world visit this amazing city and they are with around 7.5 million.

Like everyone knows, Barcelona is a very hot city, the sun is always shining and the people always sweating. Because of the heat, there is an average yearly waterconsumption of 63 million m³. Doesn't look that much right? Let me put this in another way. This number is equal to 45 million watertanks, 6.3 billion buckets of water and 126 bilion bottles of water. Thirsty people here in Barcelona!

Camp Nou Stadium of FC Barcelona

And of course we cannot forget the most famous thing about Barcelona, football. This is really the centre of live here in Barcelona. Everyone is dedicated to the club that represents there home. Everytime there is a (home)game, all people come together to watch in either at home, at a bar or in the stadium. If you are from Barcelona and you are not watching the game, than you cannot call yourself a real "Barcalonian".

To me, football is not such a big deal. I like it to watch Belgium play when it is the European or the Worldchampionship but that's it. Maybe I will have to make an exception for FC Barcelona since I am here for 5 months and I will be ashamed that I will have to tell people in Belgium that I did not go to a single game of one of the most famous clubs in the entire world. So no worries, I will :-)
