Welcome, meet Barcelona (2)

Well, hello again. This is the second time I will be writing about the facts and figures of Barcelona. What a lot of people don't know is that Barcelona has an amazing and long beach and seaside. There is 4.2 kilometres of beach to be exactly. This time of the year, obviously, it is still too cold to swim in the sea, even in Barcelona. Although I already saw some elderly people do water sports, but they are way "cooler" than me!

Another amazing place in Barcelona is the huge airport Barcelona El-Prat. It is one of the biggest airports in Europe and it is a commercial centre in Spain. The airport has 170 check-in desks, 97 gates, 43 air-bridges and 14 individual luggage carousels. More than 18.000 people come to work at the airport every day. Besides staff working for the 100 airlines that serve the airport, they also include workers at more than 80 shops and 43 restaurants in Terminals T1 and T2. Sounds like an important place to me 😊

Last but not least I would like to talk to you about a more political matter. Like most people in Europe already know there are some issues concerning the independency of Catalonia. It is a partly-autonomous region in Spain with a history dating back almost 1.000 years. Barcelona is located in this region!

The region has its own language, parliament, flag, anthem, own the police force and controls some of its public services. It would be fair to say that they operate pretty independent right? Although they operate independently, they are not. This is a very interesting topic that I am going to talk about in another post. The thing I would like to point out today is the character of people living in Barcelona and Catalonia in general. They aren’t at all afraid to speak up and tell the entire word what is on their mind. They fight for what they believe in and they don't stop until they are heard and understood. This fighter mentality is what I like the most about these people and I hope I will get the opportunity to get to know as much local people as possible to truly figure out what drives them.
